Hardwood for Enduring Style

Hardwood flooring offers natural beauty, long-term durability, and timeless appeal. Each plank brings unique grain patterns and color variations that add warmth and depth to your space. Hardwood is also one of the most durable flooring choices available, with the ability to be refinished multiple times over its lifespan. It holds up well to daily wear and adds lasting value to your home. Whether you prefer wide planks in rich tones or a classic oak finish, hardwood works across a wide range of styles, from traditional to modern. Its strength, stability, and low maintenance make it a smart investment for both design and performance.

At In and Out Flooring in Birmingham, AL, we’ll guide you through the hardwood selection and installation process with expert advice and honest recommendations. You can count on us to deliver results that look great and hold up beautifully.

Engineered vs. Solid Hardwood Flooring

Both give you a real wood surface, and once installed they can look identical. The difference is how each plank is built, and that matters in our humidity.

Solid hardwood is milled from one piece of wood, so it can be refinished many times but reacts to moisture, expanding and contracting as humidity shifts. Engineered hardwood uses a real wood veneer over cross-layered plies, giving it far more stability when humidity rises and falls.

For a Birmingham-area home:

  • Moisture: Engineered resists the cupping and buckling that humidity can cause in solid wood.
  • Where it goes: Engineered can install over concrete and below grade, where solid hardwood is not recommended.
  • Refinishing: Solid refinishes repeatedly over decades; engineered can too, depending on wear-layer thickness.

The right choice depends on the room and your subfloor. During your in-home visit, our flooring experts recommend what will perform best.

What Hardwood Costs in Birmingham

Cost depends on the species you choose, the size of the room, and any subfloor prep your space needs. Because every home is different, the most accurate way to plan your budget is with an in-home measure.
